Just a heads up, this contains some violence and blood. Just a warning.

Run.

That was the only thought going through your mind as you raced through the burning city. You didn’t know where you running to, you just knew you needed to keep moving. Buildings were falling to pieces around you as they were bombarded by the alien ships from above. You took a right down a smaller road where there were  less people and continued running. You were halfway down the street when something fell from the sky and erupted in flames in front of you. The next thing you knew, you were flat on your back. The only thing you could hear was a loud ringing in your ears as your eyes struggled to focus on the sky above you. You managed to stand up and walk forward but after a few steps your legs gave out and you fell down onto your stomach. You heard more explosions around you and when you looked up you saw it. A scepter, glittering gold in the sunlight. At the end of it a blue light swirled and pulsed. You’d seen that exact scepter on T.V just a few minutes ago. You didn’t know how it worked but you knew the leader of the invasion was the one using it. That meant it was valuable, and more importantly, powerful.

You raised yourself to your knees when you saw a man in front of you. He locked eyes with you then glanced at the scepter before looking back up at you. The next second you were on your feet sprinting towards the staff as fast as you possibly could. You reached it first and quickly snatched it from the ground. But as soon as it was in your hand you were tackled to the ground, the fallen glass littering the ground cutting your clothes and face. The scepter flew from your hand and the man quickly scrambled after it. You picked up a shard of glass and lunged toward the man and plunged the shard deep into his calf and dragged it down, tearing muscles as you went. He yelled out in pain and kicked you hard in the face with his uninjured leg causing your nose to immediately start bleeding. While he was distracted with his split leg you clambered over him towards the scepter. It was almost in arm’s reach when he grabbed your ankle and began dragging you toward him. You flipped onto your back before he could pin you down. As soon as his face was in range you threw a barrage of punches towards it. Cracks filled the air as you smashed into his teeth and jaws. He pulled up out of your reach and grabbed your neck, his large hands easily encompassing your slender neck. His fingers tightened and your chest grew tight as you gasped for air. You clawed at his arms and chest in feeble attempt to get him to stop. Your vision began to grow dark as the lack of oxygen began to set in. You turned your head to ease the pressure off your windpipe when you caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of your eye. You reached toward it, fingers barely grazing the unknown object. You stretched your fingers as far as possible and managed to grab what turned out to be a brick. You brought your arm up as hard as you could and bashed the side of the man’s head. He instantly went limp and fell off you. You rolled to your side, coughing and gasping as you tried to fill your lungs with the ash riddled air.

Once your eyesight and breathing were relatively back to normal you sat up and looked to the man next you. There was a gash from where the brick had hit him, the blood from the wound turning his sandy blonde hair red. Blood and scratches filled his face and arms, consequences from your numerous attacks. He was still breathing though, not that cared if he was or not.

You looked up from the man at the street around you. It was empty except for you but the sound of explosions and gunfire still filled the air. You struggled to your feet and made your way to retrieve the scepter. When you knelt down to pick it up it was smaller than you realized, only about a yard long. However, once you stood up it suddenly extended itself until the end reached your chin. You took a moment to exam it , switching it from hand to hand. The blue sphere at the end continued to move and swirl like water and the longer you looked at it, the calmer you began to feel. You tore your eyes away from the light, not liking the way it seemed to be putting you in a trance. You instead turned your attention to the handle. You were running your fingers along the smooth metal when you heard a voice behind you.

“That’s mine.”

You quickly turned toward the voice to see a man in green and gold. He was the man you’d seen on the news, the one leading the attack. He was covered in dirt and blood, his clothes singed and cut. He was obviously injured from the way he held his side and was leaning against the wall of the building next to him.

“Not anymore,” you replied, the words coming out hoarse from your previous attack. He took a step closer and you pointed the scepter at him.

“Please,” he smirked. “You haven’t the faintest idea of how that works. Or what it even is.”

“I know it’s what’s keeping you in charge,” you replied. “And as for how it works, I’m sure I can figure that out.”

“Oh I doubt that,” he smiled. He took another step toward you and, acting on reflex, you thrust your arm out. The scepter responded to your action and a beam of blue energy shot from it, barely missing the god. You let out a laugh of triumph, not believing what you’d just down. The Asgardian looked up at you, his condescending look now replaced with one of shock and fear.

“What was that about me not figuring it out?” you laughed.  “I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” you told him as he took another step toward you.

“You dare threaten me? What  could a mere mortal such as yourself possibly do to me?

“Seeing as this mere mortal has this,” you said gesturing toward the staff, “I’d say a lot. Like painting this street with your blood, for example.”

“Hmm. I must admit I admire your attitude. Give me the scepter and once I am king of this miserable rock, I might consider letting you be one of my servants.”

“Well I appreciate the offer but no thanks.”

“ Don’t say I didn’t ask nicely.” He suddenly raised his hand and you were thrown into the air. You landed against the wall of the building but, unlike last time, you didn’t drop the staff. As you forced yourself up Loki’s hands were on the staff, trying to pull it away from you. You kicked him in the stomach and he fell to his knees where you quickly kneed his face. His hands fell from the staff as he grabbed his broken nose. Seeing your opportunity you harshly kicked him in chest, knocking the wind out of him and sending him onto his back. You placed your foot on his chest, preventing him from quickly getting up, and put the blades of the staff at his throat.

“You know, I expected more of a challenge from a god.”

“What’s your plan now?” he spat. “Kill me on this street? Run to your mighty Avengers and allow them to eliminate my chitauri?”

“Now that would be a bit predictable wouldn’t it?” you asked. You glanced above you as squad of chitauri raced by overhead. “You know you could have won this war so easily,” you laughed. “You had an entire army with infinite numbers including near invincible warships. Yet your brother with a team of five humans has managed to hold you off. And do you know why? Because you were sloppy. Indecisive. Weak. This army was wasted on you.”

“And I assume you think you can be the one to lead them to victory do you?”

“Oh there’s no thinking about it. I know I can. With this army I can lead the entire world into a new age. One where things are simpler, more organized. These people don’t know what’s best for them, and I do.”

“You don’t know any better than them!” he yelled. “They don’t need someone like you leading them! They need someone like me. A god. Someone that sees past their petty problems. This world requires a king of my stature to rule over them!”

“The world has had its fair share of kings,” you said, drawing your face closer to his. “What this world needs, is a queen.”

My first try at some avengers stuff. I'd been wanting to try some Loki stuff and even thought this is short and Loki's in it for like 5 seconds I think it was still some good practice. I'm not all too excited about how it came out and I may rewrite it but I want to know what you guys think so please leave me some comments!
